Sexyloops Scottish Meet 2014 (in Spain!)

This year the Sexyloops annual Scottish meet was naturally held in Spain. This was for one obvious reason – Spain is of course part of Scotland. Now that we’ve cleared that up, suffice to say the weather was glorious which was the real reason for moving to Spain. There’s not too much I can tell you about this meet as I ended up not fishing at all for various reasons 1) getting out of bed too late, (read as 4pm) and 2) wanting to be involved with the ongoings on the casting field. We had the obligatory shootout, some demos, some general casting banter and lots of beer. I did...

FFF Masters (MCI) – Ireland 2013

I first ventured into the world of teaching fly fishing three and a half years ago when I sat my Game Angling Instructors’ Certificate in single handed fishing with GAIA What followed after that was an intense few years of teaching, fishing at home and travelling across the world fishing in New Zealand twice, Australia twice and going the opposite direction, the USA! Back in June I decided it was time to test myself again and do a more advanced casting instructor assessment. I chose to do the Master Casting Instructor (MCI) assessment administered by the International Federation of Fly...

I’m currently sorting through about 2000 pictures taken with the new camera combination so stay tuned for fishing reports coupled with lots of architecture, landscape and wildlife pictures. I’ll whittle the pictures right down for posting but there’s still going to be a fair few! Hopefully start to get material appearing shortly, first up will be a brief article about bass fishing and my experience with it. Casting tuition bookings are currently busy so if you’d like a lesson get in touch soon so we can organise as best as possible. The season’s just coming to a...

Catch Up

I’ve fallen behind with my every day in May posts which is no surprise really but at least I do have some good excuses! Carrying on from my last post I gave a lesson on Saturday morning which went well, my client did a great job and was very fast to put my advice into practice. He came looking for a tune up and to improve his roll casting so over the course of the morning we developed his roll cast, polished up his overhead loops and also started double hauling. I’ve genuinely never seen anyone pick up double hauling so quickly and so such a high standard right from the get go. If...

Spaghetti

Spaghetti

So how do you manage your spaghetti? We all know fly lines are one of the most amazing contraptions on the planet for tying knots, they are better than any purpose made tool you can buy, they just do it, you don’t even need to ask them! The leader ties knots, the fly line sometimes ties knots, the runningline at your feet always ties knots and then there’s those times when you take a line off a reel but don’t spool it onto a spool or winder…. and well, you’ve guessed it by now – it sometimes ties a knot just to test your anger management. I’ve got so...

Making loops and shooting heads

Making loops and shooting heads

I know I missed yesterday’s post but I had to study for an exam and absolutely nothing interesting happened that I could take a photo of. Tonight I decided that as a post exam present I’d go out and make some loops and also mess around with some shooting heads. I can reliably inform you that a 30′ length of T-14 attached to 20lb amnesia running line will end up further away from you than you can comfortably see – it’s just insane! I was using an #8 weight, once I get my #9 built I’m sure it will be sweet on that too. Going to be a fantastic tool for hitting...
