Mullet and Bread and Fly Fishing (well, sort of)
Ever had a look a mullet swimming about in harbours, estuaries, beaches and thought about trying to catch them? Ever had a crack at trying to catch them? They’re tough! In fact, I’ve never actually caught one, I must address that soon. And whilst this post might be about mullet unfortunately it’s got nothing to do with fishing for them but rather about being armed with a camera and a couple of bits of bread. These fish were mooching around a harbour in Collioure in the South of France. A few bits of bread was all that was required to get them to pose for the camera. If...

And we’re back in the game! Holidays have kept me away from the blog but I’m back now, fish have been caught recently and a whole load of fun things going on on the casting side. For now, here’s a trout from a trip back in early July with Craig W. And another smaller fish a few days later. In a couple days I’ll fire up some pictures from France including a whole load of mullet...

There’s certain things that can ruin your ideal fishing trip you have planned in your head, such as arriving at the waterside and realising you’ve forgotten a rod, losing a fly box to the river or perhaps even falling in but these all fade into insignificance on my top two things that ruin a trip for me. I checked the weather on Tuesday, Wednesday was looking best with reasonably light winds, blowing upstream and relatively stable temperatures. I tied a few flies, decided that I was going fishing and even with the forward planning of a whole day by the time I’d managed to convince my brother to come fishing it was 2030 Wednesday when we arrived at the water! The first mission was unfinished business with a trout I lost on the last outing, I sat down and waited beside his bush and then...

Last week I met up with Ben for a day on one of my local rivers. He was back home in Scotland visiting friends and family for a short time and we promised we’d get some fishing in together. If you can’t remember who Ben is, check out this post from Tasmania. We were fortunate enough to have a good forecast for the day we’d chosen, intermittent white cloud and sunshine, warm temperatures and a moderate wind heading predominantly downstream. There’s always a little apprehension in the air when you promise to take a mate fishing as you want to show off your waterways to...
