NZ 2013: Day 4 – 5 – Tough Rivers
The last 2 days have seen me on two different rivers. The first was the same as mentioned in the last post but a bit further upstream and yesterday was on another gorgeous, clear water mystery river. It’s been an interesting few days, that’s for sure. Here’s the opening image, I’ll let you have a guess to see if you know where this is going… In the past 3 days I’ve fished three different rivers, all of completely different character. The first was a deep, slow moving, peat stained water where I had to cast to rising fish as my guide. The second was a fast flowing river, coming through a gorge, with a mix of pools so deep you couldn’t see the bottom and nice runs and glides. My plan for this trip had always been to stop off in Melbourne for a week before New Zealand and catch up with friends there. I spent a few days walking around in the city, went to the Australian Open and arranged to go fishing with Brian for a few days further North in Victoria. After a long grueling summer and autumn (fall for my American friends) with limited fishing opportunities, The Fly Commission is back! Finally I’ve returned to the Southern Hemisphere!
