It’s wet and windy…

Posted by on May 13, 2012 in Everything Else | 3 comments

It’s getting closer to that moment that I’ve spoken lots about – the 17th of May. The day when I get as much free time as I want to go and fish and cast as much as I like. Unfortunately though between now and then I have a whole load of studying and an exam to complete and now even the weather has turned against me. The weather has been horrible today, very windy and the rain is skelping down now alright. Sods law will have it that the rivers will more than likely not be in best nick when my free time comes along. At least the blog posts will be better! I’m planning to...

Spaghetti

So how do you manage your spaghetti? We all know fly lines are one of the most amazing contraptions on the planet for tying knots, they are better than any purpose made tool you can buy, they just do it, you don’t even need to ask them! The leader ties knots, the fly line sometimes ties knots, the runningline at your feet always ties knots and then there’s those times when you take a line off a reel but don’t spool it onto a spool or winder…. and well, you’ve guessed it by now – it sometimes ties a knot just to test your anger management. Making loops and shooting heads

I know I missed yesterday’s post but I had to study for an exam and absolutely nothing interesting happened that I could take a photo of. Tonight I decided that as a post exam present I’d go out and make some loops and also mess around with some shooting heads. I can reliably inform you that a 30′ length of T-14 attached to 20lb amnesia running line will end up further away from you than you can comfortably see – it’s just insane! I was using an #8 weight, once I get my #9 built I’m sure it will be sweet on that too. Going to be a fantastic tool for hitting...

Loops and lessons

The loop is something that has captured the imagination of many, for some it is a by product of the effort to get your flies to the fish, there’s not much thought about it, it is just part of the process; for some it is the focus of everything, a good loop is the key to good casting and attempting to master control of it is what keeps many of us searching and learning as full control is but an ideal but we can always improve; some even see it as an art form, you’ve no doubt seen many lovely pictures and cinematic shots of unrolling loops. Whatever you see it as, it’s the...

Where it all happens…

I’ve done nothing but study today so for today’s picture it is a shot of where it all happens, i.e. my messy desk that currently has an innumberable amount of paper and other clutter on it along with a laptop to write this most important blog post. Tomorrow is looking like much of the same but I’ll make sure to get a better picture and try and write something more interesting. I am really pushed for time at the moment though, these blog posts are being pushed through under a maximum time limit of around 3 minutes! Things will change after the 17th though, I promise the...
