Since I have copious amounts of fly tying materials, around 700-800 hooks and a planned year long trip to new zealand starting in a couple months I thought I better get tying, even if it does take a fait bit of time with these pesky things! I’ve been pretty lazy recently, haven’t done much at all, just odd bits and bobs but last night I sat down with the intention of tying a few of one pattern in one size. I thought I’d tie up some of Bob Wyatt’s Deer Hair Emergers (DHE) in a size 14. Tied up 10 of them, that should last me relatively well I hope! Here’s a wee taster image:
Materials are:
Hook: Kamasan B100
Thread: Uni 8/0 Olive Dun
Body: Grey Olive Superfine Dubbing
Thorax: Hares Ear
Wing: Deer hair
Simple to tie but really does seem to do the business in the water! Will be tying up Size 16s next I think and maybe tie up some bigger ones for the sake of having them in the box! Also going to be tying up some different emergers with CDC wings, yarn wings and then I’ll move onto some nymphs and duns hopefully.
Unfortunately don’t have much opportunity to get out fishing in the next few weeks due to exams, these determine whether I can go on the New Zealand trip or not so I have to stick in! I can fit some fly tying in during my study break though!
